Marvel's "A-Force" Survives "Secret Wars," Lands New Ongoing Series
As we learned last month, some things from the current "Secret Wars" mega-event will stick around when the dust settles and the Marvel Universe picks back up this fall. One such conceit is "A-Force," the all-female Avengers book that launched as part of the "Secret Wars" event last month. Now, as announced over onGlamour, we know a little bit more about the continuing adventures of "A-Force," which will be relaunched this fall as part of the "All-New, All-Different Marvel" initiative.
"It's a fan's dream to see these characters with very different background stories having to work together," writer G. Willow Wilson told Glamour of the book's current "Secret Wars" incarnation. "And it's very exciting to imagine what a world run by women wouldlook like. There are a lot of moments about that -- and then there's giant sharks and punching things, too."
The announcement itself is light on details regarding the new volume of "A-Force"; no artist has yet been announced for the new series, meaning current "A-Force" artist Jorge Molina may not transition with the book out of "Secret Wars." Current co-writer Marguerite Bennett will not return for
the new series.
The status quo of the series is also a mystery. As with all the other "Secret Wars" series, the current volume of "A-Force" takes place on Battleworld, a patchwork planet comprised of the remains of alternate realities. The world's inhabitants know nothing beyond the borders of theirdomain and worship Doom as their god. To drive the alternate reality point home, the current volume depicts all of its heroes in more iconic costumes and not their up-to-date ones; for example, the disco Dazzler of the early '80s can be seen alongside the current Captain Marvel and the Rogue of the '90s. The cover for the new "A-Force" #1, however, features the series' "Secret Wars" leads -- Nico Minoru, Singularity, Captain Marvel, She-Hulk, Dazzler and Medusa -- in their current get-ups. This could indicate that Wilson's next "A-Force" volume will be set in the main Marvel Universe featuring the familiar versions of those characters.
The all-new "A-Force" #1 debuts this fall.
